CMFI involved in development of new rapid test to detect coronavirus antibodies
CMFI principal investigator Karl Forchhammer and research scholar Khaled Selim, together with an international research team from the Universities of Paraná (Brazil) and Tübingen, developed a rapid test that can detect antibodies against the Covid-19 pathogen SARS-CoV-2 in the blood within a few minutes. The new test has several advantages over the previous standard test "ELISA."
The new test method is not only faster than the standard ELISA test, but also indicates more reliably at low antibody concentrations in the blood. The result can be read directly from the device and, unlike previous test methods, the coloring of the test result gives a direct indication of how high the concentration of antibodies is.
No comparable immunological test for SARS-CoV-2 appears to have been developed so far, that can be used as quickly, reliably and cost-effectively.
Initial studies show that the new test method could also be used for the diagnosis of other diseases.
