Podcast "Bakterien kontrollieren: Gute Bakterien nutzen, böse bekämpfen"

01.04.2024 In the Media

What do we know about bacteria? Can we use good bacteria to fight bad ones?

Hannes Link and Nadine Ziemert, both CMFI Board Members, explore these questions in the new episode of the podcast "Exzellent erklaert - Spitzenforschung für alle".

Firstly, Hannes Link talks about how the metabolism of bacteria works - because if we understand this, bacteria can be controlled and thus used specifically for our purposes or rendered harmless. The second part of the podcast is about resistance and new antibiotics. Nadine Ziemert talks about a looming antibiotics crisis and explains how the search for new antibiotics works using state-of-the-art methods. In the search for new active substances against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, her team has succeeded in travelling back in time to a primordial antibiotic.

The podcast on current scientific topics reflects the research diversity of the German Clusters of Excellence: from A for ancient research to K for artificial intelligence and Z for the future of medicine. In each episode, listeners can expect insights into the interdisciplinary work of a research network. The scientists from the Clusters of Excellence funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) talk to podcaster Larissa Vassilian about how they want to find scientifically sound answers to relevant topics of our time - for the society of tomorrow.

The podcast can be found on all common portals and is also available without a player directly on the podcast's website: www.exzellent-erklaert.de.
