Mobile Elements in Microbial Evolution
An exciting 5-week summer research course on Mobile Elements in Microbial Evolution will be running at UC Santa Barbara this summer, with projects led by Joanne Emerson (UC Davis), Ben Good (Stanford), Roberto Kolter (Harvard), Richard Neher (Basel), Boris Shraiman (KITP), Paul Turner (Yale) and myself. The course is fast-paced and multi-disciplinary, and will give participants the opportunity to learn new experimental and bioinformatic methods in the company of fellow students from diverse research backgrounds. Course participants will also enjoy excellent seminars delivered by Aude Bernheim (Pasteur), Daniel Fisher (Stanford), Nandita Garud (UCLA), Daniel Huson (Tü), Eugene Koonin (NCBI), Katie Pollard (UCSF), Martin Polz (Vienna), Paul Rainey (Plön) and Eduardo Rocha (Pasteur), among many others.

Advanced PhD students and Postdocs with strong interest in this topic and training in physics, mathematics or biology are encouraged to apply. Tuition and accommodation fees are covered by the KITP, and some travel assistance is available.
