Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) – Microbiology/Biochemistry

The Research Group of Prof. Dr. Christoph Mayer at the Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine at the University of Tübingen is recruiting a

Postdoc in Microbiology/Biochemistry (f/m/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%)

to be filled as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to one year.

The Project

The research project, funded by the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI), aims to explore the cell wall metabolism in Bacteroidota bacteria of the human oral and gut microbiome (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4731-4851).
The ideal candidate will genetically manipulate Bacteroidota bacteria, biochemically characterize recombinant enzymes and investigate metabolites using mass spectrometry.

The candidate should have:

  • A PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related subjects.
  • Expertise in general microbiology, molecular biology, and bacterial genetics, beneficially, knowledge in the anaerobic cultivation, Bacteroidotagenetics, and/or mass spectrometry.
  • Scientific creativity and enthusiasm to address fundamental biological questions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
