Simon Heilbronner receives DGHM Förderpreis

Simon Heilbronner has been awarded the Förderpreis of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM).

Simon Heilbronner is Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence CMFI and research group leader at the Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine (IMIT) at the University of Tübingen. The Förderpeis was awarded at the annual meeting of the DGHM in Berlin on September 12, 2021.

Heilbronner receives the award for his work elucidating heterogeneity in clonal bacterial populations in human infections and the role of nutrients in bacterial persistence as a target for novel antimicrobial strategies.

 

About the DGHM Förderpreise

The Förderpreise, which are endowed with 2,500€, are awarded to younger scientists for innovative research approaches and outstanding results, and are thus intended to motivate them for further research.

The DGHM awards various prizes and honors at its annual meeting. These include the Hauptpreis and Förderpreis, bioMérieux Diagnostics Prize, BD Research Prize, PhD prizes, DGHM-Lecturer, and the Ferdinand Cohn Medal.

About the DGHM

DGHM has been founded in 1906 and has currently around 1,900 members. It brings together medical scientists, microbiologists, hygienists and clinicians interested in basic and clinical research on infectious diseases. DGHM is a member of the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) and cooperates with the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
