Deutschlandfunk Nova in an interview with CMFI Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Mathias Heikenwälder on intermittent fasting

18.02.2026 In the Media

In an interview with Deutschlandfunk Nova, molecular biologist and CMFI Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Mathias Heikenwälder provides insights into the current state of research on intermittent fasting. He confirms that it works, though not necessarily better than other fasting methods, and explains which method studies have shown to be the most effective: the 5:2 fast, in which you consume a normal amount of calories for five days and then only 300-400 calories for two days, provides the best chance of long-term success.
