mSphere Legacy: Fritz about Fritz
Friedrich Götz looks back on his career for mSphere's new article series featuring outstanding senior scientists.
Friedrich “Fritz” Götz, Associated Scientist at the CMFI, is the first researcher featured in “mSphere Legacy”, a new article series published by the microbiology journal mSphere. In the article, he looks back on 50 years of staphylococcal research.
When Götz began his career, the field was still a scientific niche. Over the following decades, it developed into a broad, interdisciplinary and internationally connected area of research. Götz reflects on the challenges and successes that shaped his career and offers early-career researchers personal insights into a life driven by scientific curiosity.
At the end of the article, he shares practical advice for young researchers. He discusses how to navigate research funding applications, how to formulate questions that can produce meaningful results and why openly accessible findings strengthen scientific collaboration.
