Cornelia Brückner receives Wübben Foundation Student Grant
CMFI nominee impresses with exceptional scientific thinking – one of only 55 students funded throughout Germany
Cornelia Brückner, a master's student in the international Microbiology and Infection Biology program at the University of Tübingen, receives the Wübben Foundation Student Grant by the Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft.
Cornelia Brückner is particularly interested in researching new active substances and the mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis. During an upcoming stay abroad at Aix Marseille Université, she will investigate the antibacterial effects of copper complexes.
“The grant from the Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft gives me the opportunity to devote myself fully to my scientific training. What fascinates me most about infection biology is the variety of strategies that pathogens use to cause infections—and how we can use this to develop new therapeutic approaches. I am particularly looking forward to the upcoming research projects at the CNRS in Marseille and at the University of Tübingen,” says grant holder Cornelia Brückner.
Excellent support for exceptional talent
The highly selective program supports 55 grant recipients throughout Germany each year. It is aimed specifically at students from all disciplines who are particularly interested and talented in science, who are enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program at a German university, and who still have at least two semesters of study ahead of them.
The grant recipients are distinguished by their exceptional interest in the major research questions of their field and impress with their unconventional approaches. The monthly stipend of €1.000 over the course of a year enables the grant recipients to concentrate fully on the crucial final phase of their studies.
CMFI nomination successful
Each year, the spokespersons for the German Clusters of Excellence nominate up to two students for the Student Grant. The Cluster of Excellence CMFI nominated Cornelia Brückner on the basis of her academic achievements.
Brückner's nomination convinced the jury of the Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft. She is the second CMFI nominee to receive the grant after Mareike Danne in 2024.
