“Wie Sie Ihre Darmflora aufbauen – und wie besser nicht”
Christoph-Stein-Thoeringer in an interview with ZEIT about our gut microbiome and when interventions can help—and when they cannot.

In an interview with ZEIT, CMFI Board Member Christoph Stein-Thoeringer provides a scientific assessment of current gut health trends and explains what really helps the microbiome—and what is more marketing than medicine.
“Gut cleansing” and “gut detoxification” are not medically recognized concepts. The gut only needs targeted support after severe stress, such as after antibiotics or serious infections. In most cases, the microbiome regulates itself.
A permanent, fiber-rich, varied diet is crucial. Short-term cures have little lasting effect on the microbiome. There is little reliable evidence for probiotics in healthy people; in some cases, they can even be harmful, says Christoph Stein-Thoeringer.
