Call for Applications: FRONTIERS Journalist-in-Residence Programme

Early career science journalists can apply for the FRONTIERS Journalist-in-Residence Programme at the Cluster of Excellence CMFI at the University of Tübingen. The scholarship enables journalists to develop their own scientific journalistic articles on current infection and microbiome research in close direct exchange with CMFI researchers. Journalists may have a maximum of five years of professional journalistic experience. The stay has a duration of three to five months. Depending on the career level, the amount of the scholarship is up to EUR 4,000 per month

The stay at the Cluster of Excellence CMFI at the University of Tübingen offers the opportunity for intensive exchange with renowned researchers working in the field of infection and microbiome research. At CMFI, we are researching innovative approaches to control microorganisms and fight infections. The aim is to elucidate the interaction mechanisms between beneficial and harmful bacteria and the host in order to develop novel targeted therapeutic and anti-infective treatment methods. With antibiotic resistance on the rise worldwide, alternative treatments for multi-resistant bacteria are urgently needed.

The Journalist-in-Residence Programme offers access to our experts, research buildings and security laboratories and thus provides an insight into current research work in Tübingen. The journalists will be supported by the Cluster of Excellence's press office if required and will be put in contact with CMFI researchers. The infrastructure of the University of Tübingen can be used on site.
The fellows also have the opportunity to give CMFI researchers an insight into science journalism practice and organize a workshop or a public lecture for this purpose.
 

About the FRONTIERS Science Journalism Residency Programme

FRONTIERS is an initiative for science journalism funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Journalists experience an on-site residency at a research institution. FRONTIERS strengthens trust in science through independent science journalism, combats misinformation and promotes societal resilience to disinformation.
By promoting independent journalism, this initiative aims to give journalists the opportunity to learn and work on in-depth reporting projects by immersing them in the research environment.
