Postdoc Position (f/m/d) Elucidating the mechanisms of membrane effector secretion through the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV b secretion system

Cluster of Excellence CMFI | now

Elucidating the mechanisms of membrane effector secretion through the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV b secretion system

Application deadline: 30.11.2024

The Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine of the University of Tübingen is Germanys foremost interfaculty and interdisciplinary institute researching bacterial physiology and pathogenesis, novel antiinfectives and microbiomes and it hosts the Cluster of Excellence ‘Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections’ (CMFI). Its Section of Cellular and Molecular Microbiology, lead by Samuel Wagner, focuses on elucidating virulence-associated transport processes of bacterial pathogens by a multi-disciplinary approach, including genetics, biochemistry, and proteomics.

Currently, a three year DFG-funded postdoc position is available on:

Elucidating the mechanisms of membrane effector secretion through the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV b secretion system

The successful candidate is expected to drive a highly collaborative basic research project to elucidate the mechanisms by which transmembrane effector proteins are secreted by T4bSS of Legionella. The project builds on the work recently accepted for publication in PLoS Pathogens (preprint). The postdoc is expected to lead a small project team that also includes a PhD student.

We are looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented and skillful candidate with a strong background in Legionella genetics or membrane protein biogenesis and secretion, excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a microbiology-strong environment at the University of Tübingen featuring the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” and the German Center for Infection Research. Remuneration will be according to TV-L E13. The position is available immediately.

Please submit your application including a CV and a motivation letter to Samuel Wagner by November 30th, 2024.
